  • Week 2 – Prospering in Family Business: The Cousin Generation and Beyond
  • Week 3 – Family compensation best practices

Session 1

Topic: Prospering in Family Business: Moving from the Founding Generation to the Next

To first generation owners, the business is part of their identity. They can have a hard time visualizing a productive and satisfying life after retirement. The second generation grew up in the business and know it well. While the business is very important to them, they may also feel there is more to life than just the business. In this webinar, we’ll discuss ways that founders can let go and NextGen can grab on so the family and the business can continue to prosper.

Date: May 4, 2021
Time: 9:45 a.m. Central Time (11 a.m. ET, 9 a.m. MT, 8 a.m. PT)
Duration: 1hr

Session 2

Topic: Prospering in Family Business: The Cousin Generation and Beyond

Second generation members are siblings. They grew up in the same family and have a built-in, intuitive sense of shared values. Third generation family members and beyond are cousins. They grew up in different families that may have different values and goals. In this webinar, we’ll share experiences that address questions like: What is the purpose of staying together as family business owners? How can we protect the financial health of the business and its ability to grow and prosper while also accommodating those who no longer want to be owners? To what extent can family owners also be involved in business leadership?

Date: May 11, 2021
Time: 10 a.m. Central Time (11 a.m. ET, 9 a.m. MT, 8 a.m. PT)
Duration: 1hr

Session 3

Topic: Family compensation best practices

In the first generation, family and business are the same thing. Compensation is what’s left over for the family after paying all other expenses. As the business and family grows into the second and third generations and beyond, there is a need for compensation practices to evolve. In this webinar, we’ll share experiences that address questions like: What are the separate interests and expectations of owners and leaders? Where leadership in the business is thought of separately, what are some practical examples of how compensation can be linked to the marketplace and performance?

Date: May 18, 2021
Time: 10 a.m. Central Time (11 a.m. ET, 9 a.m. MT, 8 a.m. PT)
Duration: 1hr

Note: Certificates will be issued to participants who sign in with proper names and have perfect attendance.
